Alabama State University College of EducationThe day begins with check-in on the Alabama State University Campus at the Ralph D Abernathy Hall Auditorium at 8:00 a.m.  Program begins at 8:30AM.  The auditorium is located in the Ralph D. Abernathy College of Education Bldg.

Named for ASU alumnus and civil rights icon Ralph David Abernathy, the 134,000-square-foot Ralph David Abernathy Hall is home to the College of Education. The building is the university’s second largest facility and features simulated classrooms, research and development laboratories, a 545-seat auditorium and stately rotunda designated as a “great teachers memorial hall.” An outdoor courtyard provides students and faculty with a beautiful space to relax, socialize or study.  SEE PARKING INSTRUCTIONS BELOW

While in Montgomery plan ahead so you can visit some of the historical sites of local and national importance that are located in the heart of downtown Montgomery.  For example, the Troy University Rosa Parks Museum, the Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice (opened in 2018) are just a 16-minute walk apart and minutes from the downtown hotels.  Alabama State University is also home to The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture. There are many other historically important sites to visit in the Montgomery area.  Connect with the visitors information center as you plan your travel.

Start out going EAST on SELMA HWY/US-80 E/AL-21 N/AL-8 toward BREWER RD. Continue to follow US-80E. Merge onto I-65N toward MONTGOMERY/BIRMINGHAM. Merge onto I-85 N / MARTIN LUTHER KING JR EXPY via EXIT 171 toward ATLANTA. Take the COURT ST exit- EXIT 1. Stay STRAIGHT to go onto ARBA ST. Turn RIGHT onto S DECATUR ST. From Birmingham

Take I-65 South toward MONTGOMERY. Merge onto I-85 N / MARTIN LUTHER KING JR EXPY via EXIT 171 toward ATLANTA. Take the COURT ST exit- EXIT 1. Stay STRAIGHT to go onto ARBA ST. From Mobile

PARKING ON CAMPUS –

Parking will be behind the Ralph D Abernathy Hall – in the Alabama State University Hornet Stadium parking area (see maps).All participants should print off the PARKING PERMIT to put on their dashboard.  This pass has been approved by the Alabama State University Police Department.

Participants using hotel shuttles, taxis or Uber/Lyft services should use the same instructions to the parking area for drop off as access to the meeting area is easiest from this same area.
